There is a specific kind of clarity that only arrives when a category is new enough to be misunderstood by everyone and old enough to be undeniable to the few who have been paying attention. KAELUM sits in that exact moment. It is not crypto. It is not a loyalty scheme. It is not a payment processor. It is not a neobank. It is not a gift card. It is not a token offering. And yet, to understand what it actually is, you have to understand why each of those things is the wrong comparison and why the right comparison does not exist yet.
The Genesis of KAELUM
The idea for KAELUM emerged when Founder Greggar Deterville confronted two major challenges in his businesses: the lack of consistent cash flow and the difficulty of Merchants attracting and retaining E-commerce Customers. Or, more precisely, how to create sustainable financial circulation within his brands while continuously rewarding customer engagement.
The Founder noticed that traditional financial systems and marketing models were not built to serve modern Creators or small Enterprises. Transaction Fees, Payment delays, and limited loyalty incentives made it difficult to grow sustainably. He realised that the core issue wasn't the business model; it was the money system itself.
His solution was as bold as it was unconventional:
If the problem is money, then create a better kind of money. One that worked for the Ecosystem instead of against it. Read the Founder Story
What KAELUM Actually Is
KAELUM is the world's first Agentic Ai-Native, Closed-Loop Digital Commerce Currency Platform. That is the canonical definition, and every word in it is load-bearing.
Agentic Ai-Native means the currency is governed by artificial intelligence from the ground up, not by a static rulebook, a blockchain consensus mechanism or a human operations team. The K.A.T.E. engine (Kaelum Audivo Triovus Engine) runs every transaction, every compliance check and every reward calculation in real time.
Closed-loop means KLM circulates inside the KAELUM ecosystem. Customers cannot redeem KLM for fiat. Merchants and Creators can redeem the KLM they earn through commerce, and only that KLM; KLM bought directly, or received as rewards, stays in circulation. We consider this design falls within the exclusion at regulation 3 of the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 and paragraph 2(k) of Part 2 of Schedule 1 to the Payment Services Regulations 2017, with the corresponding exclusion under the EU E-Money Directive 2009/110/EC. An independent legal opinion confirming this has not yet been obtained.
Commerce currency means KLM is not a voucher, not a points scheme and not a stablecoin. It is a medium of exchange within a defined ecosystem, fixed in price, governed by K.A.T.E., and built to power productive commerce rather than speculative holding. It does not run on a blockchain and it is not traded on exchanges.
Customers buy KLM at a fixed price. They spend KLM at participating merchants and creators and receive a 6%+ merchant discount on their purchase; a 4.5% platform transaction fee applies. Merchants and Creators redeem the KLM they earn through commerce for fiat. The Ai engine makes the entire system intelligent.
How the Economics Work for Every Participant
For customers: Every purchase made with KLM at a participating merchant or creator unlocks a 6%+ merchant discount at the point of spending, and the 4.5% platform transaction fee is added to the discounted price. On top of that, 1.2% of every transaction value is allocated automatically to the KAELUM Performance Reserve (KPR) and shared quarterly in KLM with active participants, as a reward for commerce, not for holding. No points expiry. No obscure redemption rules.
For merchants: No fee on the payments you receive. No chargebacks on KLM spend, because every payment comes from a pre-funded KLM balance. Redeem the KLM you earn through commerce for fiat on request, from £180 to £27,000 per redemption, with a 1.8% redemption fee for verified accounts and 2.5% for unverified accounts. Live Ai analytics from the K.A.T.E. Merchant Performance Agent cover churn risk, pricing signals, redemption patterns and growth opportunities.
For creators: Social Paylinks for Instagram, TikTok and Threads. Commerce Drops for time-boxed product launches. Creator Studio Ai advisory on listing optimisation, royalty structuring and collaboration opportunities. Referral Hub for growth. Creators redeem commerce-earned KLM from £10 to £5,000 per redemption.
For platforms and institutions: The K.A.T.E. Integration product licenses the compliance, fraud detection and intelligence layers of the platform as an Ai-as-a-Service offering, giving third-party commerce networks access to the same governance infrastructure that powers KAELUM.
The rails: TrueLayer Open Banking (KAELUM Open Pay) is the primary way to top up. Stripe is the secondary top-up option and the current redemption rail, with Modulr planned after funding for SEPA Instant settlement. The 4.5% platform transaction fee applies to purchases and KLM transfers; top-ups are free.
K.A.T.E., Claude, and the 21-Agent Architecture
This is the part of the KAELUM story that makes even seasoned fintech observers stop and re-read. Most platforms that describe themselves as Ai-powered mean they have a chatbot, or a machine learning model scoring fraud in the background, or a roadmap full of features that will eventually involve Ai. KAELUM means something categorically different.
KAELUM operates a fleet of 21 autonomous Ai agents, running live across every layer of the business and platform. These agents do not simply execute rules. They reason, they analyse, they produce outputs that would traditionally require entire departments in a legacy financial institution, and they do it in real time, continuously, across every transaction.
Critically, every one of those 21 agents runs on Anthropic Claude, exclusively and entirely, as specialised Claude instances. This was a deliberate decision after rigorous evaluation across available large language model providers. Overseeing the fleet is K.A.T.E. itself, the Ai Chief Operating Officer of KAELUM Technologies Ltd, which governs all 21 agents, the platform, the Agentic Banking Suite and compliance, and reports to the Founder as CEO.
Governed Autonomy: K.A.T.E. Governs the Rails. You Govern the Spend.
Autonomy at KAELUM is governed, never unchecked. Users set a permission level for each capability: observe, recommend or autonomous. Sensitive actions, account suspensions and user-facing communications pass through human approval gates, and every purchase a personal agent makes needs one-tap approval from the customer. Agentic Banking advice is advisory and needs the user's confirmation before anything happens. The Ai does the work. The human keeps the authority.
The 21 Agents, Currently Live
As of October 2026, we know of no other digital commerce currency running an Ai agent fleet of this scope on a single frontier Ai provider. This is not a roadmap. The architecture is live today.
How KAELUM Differs From Stripe, Wero, and the Rest
This is the section that makes the category distinction concrete. Every time KAELUM is described to someone new, the first instinct is to map it to something familiar. Stripe. Wero. PayPal. Revolut. That instinct is understandable, and it is wrong. KAELUM is not a better version of any of those. It is a different kind of thing altogether.
| Category | Stripe | Wero | KAELUM |
|---|---|---|---|
| What It Is | Payment processor | Bank-backed European payment scheme | Ai-governed commerce currency |
| Loop Type | Open-loop | Open-loop (bank rails) | Closed-loop |
| Regulatory Model | Authorised payments and e-money firm | Bank-led scheme (EPI) | Closed-loop arrangement (company view: reg. 3 EMR 2011) |
| Currency Issued | None (moves fiat) | None (routes fiat) | KLM (fixed price) |
| Customer Discount | None | None | 6%+ merchant discount, 4.5% fee applies |
| Ai Governance | ML fraud scoring | Not core to the product | 21 Claude agents, live |
| Chargebacks | Standard card risk | Bank dispute protocols | None on KLM spend |
| Merchant Fee | Per-transaction card fees | Bank-set | None on payments received; 1.8% to 2.5% on redemption |
| Settlement | Fiat (1 to 7 days) | Instant account-to-account | Fiat redemption on request |
| Revenue Streams | Processing fees | Transaction fees | Six diversified streams |
| Market Availability | Live globally | E-commerce in DE, FR, BE; in-store rolling out 2026 | Live now (controlled onboarding) |
The pattern is clear once it is mapped. Stripe and the card networks are infrastructure that moves fiat from one account to another, extracting a fee on the way through. KAELUM runs on top of these infrastructures and produces something that none of them produce on their own: a governed economic ecosystem with its own currency, its own Ai intelligence layer, and its own built-in savings and rewards for participants.
The Strategic Insight Most Observers Miss
Card processors charge merchants to move fiat. KAELUM brings customers who already hold KLM to merchants and creators, and merchants pay nothing on the payments they receive. The economic relationship is inverted. A merchant on a card processor pays to accept a payment that may have happened anyway. A merchant on KAELUM receives a customer who arrived holding KLM because of the 6%+ discount that participating merchants offer.
The Payment Sovereignty Context
In February 2026, the Financial Times reported that Martina Weimert, CEO of the European Payments Initiative, called urgently for European alternatives to Visa and Mastercard. ECB President Christine Lagarde echoed that call. According to the ECB, Visa and Mastercard accounted for approximately 61% of euro area card payments in 2022, and 13 euro area countries have no national card scheme of their own. In the UK, up to 95% of card transactions run on the same two networks.
The institutional response is now under way on both sides of the Channel. Wero, the consumer payment product of the European Payments Initiative, launched e-commerce payments in Germany from late 2025 and in France and Belgium from January 2026, with in-store payments rolling out through 2026; it still needs several billion euros more to reach full scale. In the UK, the government is giving the Bank of England a statutory secondary objective to support innovation in payments and new forms of digital currency, and on 15 September 2026 the UK Payments Delivery Company launched a £50 million raise, backed by 19 firms including the four largest UK banks, to build a domestic account-to-account alternative to the card networks, funded through 2028.
On 30 September 2026, five of Europe's leading payment solutions, Bancomat, Bizum, EPI Company (Wero), SIBS MB WAY and Vipps MobilePay, launched the European Network for Payments (ENP), a Madrid-based hub that connects their services across 13 countries and around 130 million users. Cross-border person-to-person payments come first, with e-commerce and in-store payments to follow. Europe is connecting its rails. What those rails do not yet have is a governed way for Ai agents to buy on a person's behalf, and that is the layer KAELUM has built.
ENP connects Europe's rails. KAELUM makes them agent-ready. The digital euro is 2029 at the earliest, and the agentic layer is being built now.
The Four Revenue Streams
- Transaction Fees. A 4.5% platform fee on purchases and KLM transfers within the network. Top-ups are free, and merchants and creators are not charged on payments they receive. The primary revenue engine.
- Verified Subscriptions. Customer (£6 monthly), Creator (£9) and Merchant (£12) premium tiers, paid in KLM, providing enhanced limits, analytics and a reduced 1.8% redemption fee for Creators and Merchants.
- Redemption Float. Income from managing the funds held between KLM issuance and redemption.
- Platform Licensing. K.A.T.E. Integration licences the Ai governance layer as infrastructure to third-party commerce networks and institutional partners.
GTV Targets and the Category Question
The figures below are targets, not results. KAELUM is pre-revenue, and every number here is a goal the platform is built to reach.
The Category-Ownership Argument
The defining European fintechs did not just build products. They defined categories and became the default answer within them. Revolut did it for the digital banking superapp. Klarna did it for Buy Now, Pay Later. Adyen did it for unified commerce processing.
As of October 2026, one significant category within European fintech has no owner: the Agentic Ai-Native commerce currency. We consider KAELUM the first serious entrant in it.
Category ownership is how European fintechs become defining companies. A defensible category, an institutional tailwind, and an architecture competitors cannot replicate without rebuilding from scratch: that is the profile of a category leader.
Regulatory Architecture by Design
KAELUM is structured as a closed-loop arrangement which we consider falls within the exclusion at regulation 3 of the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 and paragraph 2(k) of Part 2 of Schedule 1 to the Payment Services Regulations 2017, with the corresponding exclusion under the EU E-Money Directive 2009/110/EC. Customers cannot redeem KLM for fiat, and KLM circulates only within the defined ecosystem. KAELUM is not FCA-authorised and does not claim to be, and an independent legal opinion confirming its position has not yet been obtained.
KLM does not run on a blockchain and, in the company's view, is not a cryptoasset under current UK or EU classification. Our understanding is that spending KLM does not create a capital gains disposal for customers, and that KLM is treated as a Multi-Purpose Voucher (MPV) for VAT purposes, with VAT accounted for when goods or services are supplied. Merchants and creators should take their own tax advice.
The KAELUM Advantage
KAELUM has an advantage that cannot be manufactured: timing. The digital euro is 2029 at the earliest. KAELUM is live and Ai-governed now. That window will not stay open indefinitely.
The second advantage is architectural. Since May 2026, KAELUM has had an open pull request to Anthropic's own financial-services repository, proposing a KAELUM commerce-currency partner plugin: github.com/anthropics/financial-services/pull/159. Alongside it, KAELUM publishes KAELUM Commerce Checkout, an open-source storefront backend for Anthropic's commerce-agents shopping agent. The blueprint deliberately stops at the money; KAELUM fills that gap, so a Claude shopping agent can browse the KAELUM network and hand checkout to KAELUM, where a human confirms the spend. Both are public for anyone to read.
The third is the Founder: a solo, non-technical founder who built a live, Ai-governed fintech platform without a co-founder, without an engineering team and without external development, by treating Claude not as a tool but as a full creative and operational partner. That approach is the thesis. KAELUM is the proof. Read the Founder Story
Frequently Asked Questions
What is KAELUM in one sentence?
KAELUM is the world's first Agentic Ai-Native, closed-loop digital commerce currency platform, governed by 21 Anthropic Claude agents and built to deliver a 6%+ merchant discount to customers (4.5% platform transaction fee applies) and committed demand to merchants and creators.
How is KAELUM different from cryptocurrency?
KLM does not run on a blockchain, is not speculative and is not traded on exchanges. In the company's view it is not a cryptoasset. It is structured as a closed-loop arrangement which we consider falls within the exclusion at regulation 3 of the Electronic Money Regulations 2011. Its price is fixed and does not rise or fall. Customers cannot redeem KLM for fiat. Value is realised through commerce, not trading.
How does KAELUM compare to Stripe?
Stripe is an open-loop payment provider that charges merchants to move fiat. KAELUM is a closed-loop commerce currency that brings customers who already hold KLM to merchants and creators, and earns from the resulting commerce activity. The economic relationship is different, and the closed-loop architecture, the Ai intelligence layer and the built-in customer discount are all absent from Stripe by design.
Why does KAELUM use only Anthropic Claude?
After evaluation across available frontier Ai providers, Claude consistently outperformed alternatives in compliance reasoning, regulatory interpretation, structured financial logic and nuanced risk assessment. Standardising on Claude across all 21 agents produces one coherent intelligence layer. The decision was architectural, not incremental.
What is the three-tier Claude model system?
Claude Haiku 4.5 handles lightweight, high-volume tasks. Claude Sonnet 5.5 handles standard and advisory functions. Claude Opus 5.5 is reserved for the highest-consequence decisions: KVI Governance, complex compliance reasoning, high-stakes financial analysis and Agentic Banking decisions. Each agent is matched to the Claude model its function requires.
Is KAELUM regulated in the UK?
KAELUM is not FCA-authorised and does not claim to be. It is structured as a closed-loop arrangement which we consider falls within the exclusion at regulation 3 of the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 and paragraph 2(k) of Part 2 of Schedule 1 to the Payment Services Regulations 2017, with the corresponding exclusion under the EU E-Money Directive 2009/110/EC. Customers cannot redeem KLM for fiat. An independent legal opinion confirming this position has not yet been obtained.
What are KAELUM's GTV targets?
£40 million in Year 1, £250 million in Year 2 and £750 million in Year 3. These are targets, not results; KAELUM is pre-revenue. They rest on the four-stream revenue model, merchant onboarding and planned European expansion.
Is KAELUM building a new fintech category?
Yes. KAELUM is the first Agentic Ai-Native, closed-loop commerce currency, sitting where Ai and payments meet, at a moment when European and UK policymakers are openly calling for alternatives to the card networks. The structural conditions for category leadership are present. Execution over the next 36 months will determine how far it goes.
The category is defined. The infrastructure is live. The door is open.
KAELUM is in its controlled onboarding phase. Merchants can apply to accept KLM, Creators can start building today, and the K.A.T.E. agent fleet is running. This is not a future platform. It is operational now.
