Intent to Receipt: KAELUM's Agentic Payments
How KAELUM's Agentic Payments join discovery, payment and follow-through into one Ai-governed loop, and why the race for seamless payments will be won by whoever connects all three.

Shoppers no longer start with a payment. They start with a question: what should I buy, where is it in stock, and is this the right price? Increasingly, they ask an Ai assistant.
That changes what a great payment experience means. Speed at the till still matters, but the bigger opportunity now spans the whole purchase, from the first question to the parcel arriving and the receipt that proves it. Payment companies are adding Ai to answer that shift, one function at a time.
This is a race for innovation in seamless payments, and seamless means joined up. Most of the industry is building the pieces. KAELUM has built the loop.
Intent, Exchange and Follow-Through
Every purchase passes through three stages:
- Intent: finding the right product, weighing the options and deciding to buy.
- Exchange: approval, secure checkout and the transfer of value.
- Follow-Through: delivery, verifiable receipts, returns, rewards and the relationship that brings the customer back.
Security is not a fourth stage added at the end. In KAELUM it runs through all three: identity and limits are checked before anything is prepared, every purchase is approved before checkout, and every payment and refund is recorded so it can be verified afterwards.
Today each stage tends to have a different owner. Search engines, marketplaces and social platforms shape what people buy. Card networks and payment processors move the money. Lending, analytics and loyalty providers handle what comes next. Each hand-off adds cost, delay and a gap where context is lost.
How Payment Processors use Ai Today
Ai is already everywhere in payments, but mostly inside individual functions:
- Fraud scoring and risk models that approve or decline a transaction.
- Routing and authorisation optimisation that picks the cheapest or most reliable path.
- Merchant analytics, forecasting and support assistants.
- Emerging frameworks that let shopping agents pay on existing card and account rails, usually by giving the agent a stored credential.
These are valuable improvements. But they sit inside a model designed before agents existed, where the payment is a step at the end of someone else's journey, and where an agent paying on your behalf is mainly a question of handing it your card.
What KAELUM Agentic Payments is
KAELUM Agentic Payments is a complete, Ai-governed purchasing system built on KAE, KAELUM's closed-loop commerce currency, fixed at £0.20 a Unit. Customers spend KAE with participating merchants and creators and receive a merchant discount of 6% or more every time.
Every step is governed by K.A.T.E., KAELUM's Ai engine, powered by Claude from Anthropic. K.A.T.E. works from the first question to the final receipt, inside one system, with one set of rules and one record of what happened.
K.A.T.E. governs the rails. You govern the spend.
How it Works, Step by Step
- Ask. The customer tells K.A.T.E. what they want in plain language: "a black hoodie in XL under £60", or simply "find me a cap".
- Search. K.A.T.E. searches live KAELUM merchants and reads each merchant's real options, sizes, colours and stock, so results reflect what can actually be bought today.
- Show. The customer sees the strongest matches with the KAE price and discount. If nothing is in stock, K.A.T.E. offers to buy it when it returns, and shows businesses not yet on KAELUM that may stock it.
- Choose. The customer taps "Buy with K.A.T.E." on the item they want. If several items match equally well, K.A.T.E. asks the customer to choose rather than guessing.
- Prepare. K.A.T.E. prepares the purchase with the chosen size and colour and the saved delivery address, and writes a decision record: how it read the request, what it considered, what it checked and which rules applied.
- Approve. The customer lands on the merchant's own product page, where a KAELUM approval window shows the item, options, price, discount, delivery address and K.A.T.E.'s reasoning. One tap approves it, with Face ID, a fingerprint or a security key for larger amounts.
- Pay. KAE moves from the customer to the merchant through KAELUM's checkout. Stock is re-checked at the moment of approval, so a sold-out option never gets paid for.
- Fulfil. The merchant receives the order with every detail it needs, by email and in Merchant Center, and can have it created automatically in its Wix, Shopify or WooCommerce store.
- Afterwards. The customer gets a tamper-evident receipt, can cancel before shipping or return within 14 days, earns KAEback, and receives a monthly statement of everything K.A.T.E. did and why.
What K.A.T.E. Can Do
- Understand requests in everyday language, including item type, colour, size and price limits.
- Check real availability against each merchant's own sizes, colours and stock before suggesting or buying.
- Prepare purchases end to end, ready for a single approval.
- Buy it when: watch an item and prepare the purchase when it is back in stock or drops below the customer's price.
- Explain itself: ask "why did you buy that?" and K.A.T.E. replays its full decision record.
- Handle aftercare: returns, refunds, order tracking and monthly statements.
- Connect demand to merchants: when customers look for businesses not yet on KAELUM, K.A.T.E. lets those businesses know they are being asked for.
- Work with other agents: Ai agents from other platforms can discover products, quote prices and start KAELUM checkouts, with the customer always completing the payment.
The Human Controls
An agent that can spend is only useful if the person stays in charge. KAELUM separates two decisions: the boundary, which the customer sets once, and each purchase inside it.
- A Pay setting: Observe (K.A.T.E. only finds products), Recommend (K.A.T.E. prepares, the customer approves) or Autonomous.
- Mandates in plain terms: what K.A.T.E. may do, per-purchase and period limits, which merchants and categories, and when the authority expires. Suspend or revoke in one tap.
- Approval on every purchase: today every agent purchase waits for the customer's tap. Fully autonomous buying is built, but switched off platform-wide until KAELUM's independent legal opinion is in place.
- A gate for anything unclear: if a request is ambiguous or a purchase crosses a sensitivity threshold, such as a first purchase from a merchant or an unusually large amount, K.A.T.E. asks rather than acts.
- An emergency stop: customers can pause all agent buying instantly, and KAELUM can pause agent purchasing across the platform.
- Standing orders still ask: a "buy it when" instruction always returns to the customer for approval when it triggers.
The Security Measures
- Passkeys: larger purchases and changes to an agent's authority are confirmed with Face ID, a fingerprint or a security key. Biometrics never leave the customer's device.
- Decision records: every agent purchase carries a fingerprinted record of why K.A.T.E. acted, so the decision itself can be audited, not just the transaction.
- OBSIGNIA ledger: every agent purchase and refund is sealed in KAELUM's tamper-evident ledger and can be independently verified.
- Safety limits and fraud checks: purchase-rate and daily spending limits, unusual-amount detection and automatic suspension of an agent's authority if something looks wrong.
- SENTINEL monitoring: transaction monitoring and daily sanctions screening across the platform.
- Verified agents: agents from other platforms that register with KAELUM are shown as verified at checkout; others are clearly shown as not verified.
- A closed loop: customers cannot cash KAE out, KAE cannot be traded, and its price never moves, which removes whole categories of fraud and manipulation.
Two Models Side by Side
The difference is not a feature list. It is where intelligence sits and who stays in control.
| Today's payment model with Ai added | KAELUM Agentic Payments | |
|---|---|---|
| Where Ai sits | Inside individual functions: fraud scoring, routing, analytics, support chat | Across the whole journey, governed by one engine, K.A.T.E. |
| Discovery | Usually owned by search engines, marketplaces and social platforms | K.A.T.E. finds live products and real options for the customer |
| Who approves the spend | The customer at checkout, or an agent holding a stored credential | The customer, every time, with one tap and a passkey for larger amounts |
| Why a decision was made | Rarely recorded in a form the customer can read | A fingerprinted decision record on every agent purchase |
| Customer value | Card rewards funded by fees elsewhere in the chain | A merchant discount of 6% or more on every KAE spend, plus KAEback |
| Chargebacks | A standing cost and dispute process for merchants | None: refunds run through the merchant and the order record |
| Follow-through | Separate tools for receipts, returns, loyalty and statements | Receipts, returns, refunds, rewards and monthly statements in the same loop |
| Agent identity | Emerging frameworks for recognising agents | Registered agents shown as verified; others shown as not verified |
| Businesses not yet connected | Invisible to the payment flow | Shown to customers, who can tell them they want to pay with KAE |
Why One Loop Wins the Race
When discovery, payment and aftercare are owned by different companies, every hand-off loses context. The recommendation does not know the stock. The payment does not know why the item was chosen. The return does not know what was promised.
When one governed system runs the whole journey, the context travels with the customer. K.A.T.E. knows what was asked, what was available, what was approved, what was paid and what happened next, and the customer can see all of it.
That is what seamless should mean: not faster checkout alone, but a journey where the customer's intent is understood, their approval is respected and their record is complete, from the first question to the final receipt.
The Race is On
The next leaders in payments will not simply process transactions. They will help customers decide, keep them in control, and look after them long after the money has moved. KAELUM's Agentic Payments are live today for customers, creators and merchants.
